The determination of the relation between height and the physiological stress indicator, "Harris lines". Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Dergisi 2005; 48: 30-38. Originating from the definition of the Harris lines as the "arrested development of growth", a study was performed on 190 girls and 210 boys in Ankara, for a total of 400 cases, including infants and children. The existence and number of Harris lines, an indicator of physiological stress, were determined from the tibia radiographs. First, the girls and boys with Harris lines were determined. Then whether or not the existence of the Harris lines affected the development of height was studied. Statistics were used to support the outcomes. Height in terms of the existence or not of Harris lines produced similar results in boys. The difference in height for girls relative to the existence of Harris lines was more notable. It was determined that boys and girls with no Harris lines were taller than those with Harris lines. As a result it can be stated that although the girls were more affected by the Harris lines when compared to boys, there was no suspension of growth when compared to boys.
