Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Dergisi 2007; 50: 227-230.
Fetal tissues contain high concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) concentrations of which were shown to increase in lung diseases. Here, we aimed to evaluate whether serum HA levels in preterm babies can predict bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The study group consisted of 12 neonates who developed respiratory distress syndrome upon admission and bronchopulmonary dysplasia later. The control group consisted of 13 neonates who developed neither of these pathologies. There was no significant difference in HA levels of the groups; therefore, serum HA levels are unlikely to be used as a predictor of bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
