Autism spectrum disorder is a disease that shows itself with difficulty in social communication, limited skills and repetitive behavior, and is caused by genetic and environmental factors. One of these environmental factors is nutrition. It has been revealed that in addition to the fact that the foods consumed can cause autism, many symptoms of autism can also be reduced with nutrition. In addition, gastrointestinal system diseases that occur due to selective eating in individuals with autism and diseases that may occur as a result of not taking adequate and balanced nutrients are also eliminated by nutrition. In this context, gluten-free-casein-free diet, ketogenic diet, special carbohydrate diet, Feingold diet, Candida diet and various nutritional supplements are used in order to reduce the symptoms of autism and to protect patient health. This review has been written to evaluate current nutritional approaches used in autism spectrum disorder and to present sample diet plans suitable for these nutritional approaches.
