Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular disease, renal disease and stroke. In addition, it is believed that primary hypertension has its roots in childhood. Thus, the accurate definition and early identification of hypertension are imperetive in childhood, but not as easy as in adults with usual office blood pressure measurements. Especially ‘white coat’ hypertension and masked hypertension have displayed a real diagnostic difficulty. Thus, usage of 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in children has grown exponentially over the last decade.
