Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Deontoloji Doçenti Physician and poet Şaban Şifai was born in Ayaş-Ankara. He went to Istanbul, where he learned medicine and then joined the “royal physicians”. He graduated from Galata Sarayı Medresseh and became a teacher of medresseh in 1687/1688 and then gave lectures in various medressehs and was promoted to higher ranks. Şaban Şifai became the cadi of Diyarbakır in 1703/1704. Following dismissal from his post in July/August 1704, he returned to Ankara, where he died in February/March 1705. His most prominent work was Tedbiru’l-Mevlud (Treatment of Newborn), which was composed of an introduction, eight sections and a conclusion. He also wrote a booklet on antidotes under the title of Şifa’iyye. Kısasu’l-Enbiya (Stories of Prophets) and Kala’idu’l-‘Ikban (Necklaces of Eagles) represent some non-medical translations of Şaban Şifai.
