On "pregnancy and delivery" in Emir Çelebi's famous work Enmuzecu't-Tibb (A Sample of Medicine). Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Dergisi 2010;53: 318-327. The chapters related to pregnancy and delivery of Enmuzecu't-Tibb of Emir Çelebi, who was the eleventh chief physician of the Ottoman Empire in the seventeenth century, were studied and are presented in this article. Toward this aim, a copy of Enmuzecu't-Tibb, which is registered in the Süleymaniye Handwritten Works Library, Mihrişah Sultan Collection, nr. 342/1, was examined. Information related to pregnancy and delivery in Enmuzecu't- Tibb was found in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth babs (chapters) of the third sifr (book) and the first, second and third chapters of the fourth sifr (book) of the sixth ta'lim (lesson) of the book. These chapters were firstly transliterated into the contemporary Turkish alphabet and then translated into contemporary Turkish. It was attempted to interpret the knowledge on pregnancy and delivery extracted from these chapters and to determine its place in the history of medicine. It was ascertained that Emir Çelebi not only gave some rather true observational knowledge, but also presented some dubious knowledge from his predecessors such as Hippocrates and Rhazes, making no differentiation between them.
