Congenital hyperinsulinism treated with long-acting somatostatin analogue octreotide: a case report
Başkent Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 1Pediatri Uzmanı, 2Pediatri Doçenti Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 3 Pediatri Yardımcı Doçenti Persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia is a rare disease characterized by inappropriate over secretion of insulin, and it represents the most common cause of persistent hypoglycemia in neonatal period. If recognition and appropriate treatment are delayed permanent brain damage will occur. Although opinions differ regarding treatment modalities, selective surgery or long-term medical treatment is proposed for the last years. We report a case of persistent hyperinsulinism diagnosed with symptomatic and persistent hypoglycemia in the early neonatal period and treated with long-acting somatostatin analogue octreotide.
