Abstract
T helper (Th) cells play important roles in the development of autoimmune diseases. Studies related to the role of emerging Th subsets in the development of glomerulonephritis have increased in recent years. Description of new Th subsets leads to a better understanding of the disease-causing mechanisms and pathogenesis of glomerulonephritis. Findings of the studies related to the subject are extremely important for delineation of different aspects of renal injury mechanisms. The definition of the relation of these mechanisms with clinical parameters and disease prognosis may help in developing new management strategies. In addition, different aspects of renal inflammation may lead to the development of new treatment modalities in addition to classical immunosuppressive drugs. These may result in increased patient survival and quality of life. This study aimed to summarize the data regarding the role of Th17 and Treg in the development of glomerulonephritis.
