Abstract
A study was conducted at the Institute of Pediatrics in Baku, Azerbaijan to investigate the ultrasonographic findings in premature infants with intrauterine cytomegalovirus (CMV) and/or herpes virus infections. These infants were divided into groups according to infections as follows: Group 1: CMV infection (n = 37 infants); Group 2: herpes virus infection (n = 29 infants); Group 3: CMV and herpes virus infection (n = 26 infants); and Group 4: controls (n=20 infants). Ultrasonographic findings were worse in Groups 1 and 3. The importance of cranial ultrasonography in the evaluation of these infants is emphasized.
