Abstract
Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is a lethal tickborne viral infection seen particularly in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Clinical features include fatigue, headache, fever, and myalgia accompanied by severe bleeding. Ribavirin is currently the only treatment option, although not yet approved, and may be beneficial in some cases. We review the current literature on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical course, and treatment of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever with particular emphasis on infection during pregnancy and in the newborn.
