Abstract

Foreign body aspiration is a common problem in childhood. There may be cough, wheeze, or stridor, with decreased or abnormal breath sounds on examination. However, it may sometimes remain undetected due to atypical history or misleading clinical and radiological findings. Clinical and radiological findings in delayed cases may mimic other disorders. To prevent delayed diagnosis, clinical and radiological findings should be carefully evaluated for a possible aspiration. Atypical or prolonged respiratory symptoms should alert the physician. We describe a case of foreign body aspiration in a 12- year-old boy who had a diagnosis of lung abscess and presented with cough and hemoptysis without aspiration history.
