Abstract

Kawasaki disease is a multi-systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology that most commonly affects boys under five years old. It is a vasculitis characterized by fever, rash, bilateral nonexudative conjunctivitis, cervical lymphadenopathy, erythema of lips and oral mucosa and change in the extremities. Early diagnosis and treatment are important because of coronary artery disease can develop in untreated children with the disease and may lead to myocardial infarction, and sudden death. Hematological abnormalities such as thrombocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis, and anemia have been reported in Kawasaki disease. Neutrophilia is common during the acute phase of the disease, whereas neutropenia is rare. In this report, we describe a pediatric case with Kawasaki disease and neutropenia.
