Abstract

Nebulizer therapies are widely used for the treatment of respiratory diseases. This study was planned to determine the level of knowledge of the nurses, doctors and final-year medical students, working in Hacettepe University (HU) İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital about nebulizer therapy in childhood. Data were collected using a questionnaire on nebulizer therapy prepared by the HU Pediatric Chest Diseases Unit of the overall 150 subjects (41 physicians, 75 nurses, and 34 medical students), more than half of the staff had at least one year of experience with nebulizer therapy use. After evaluation of the responses, we found no a statistical difference among the three different occupational groups. All three groups had a low level of correct responses about gas flows and equipment disinfection. The same questionnaire was applied to the same group after a workshop was conducted, and an increase in correct responses was detected in all groups.
