Abstract

Though human curiosity of heart is rooted in prehistoric ages, the complexity of its function, ion channels, molecular aspects and protein conformations have barely been discovered even in the present century. Circulatory failure in children is a heterogeneous group of disorders, which may be caused by congenital defects or myocardial dysfunction based on metabolic, toxic or inflammatory pathologies, which occasionally require multi-drug treatments. As our knowledge and understanding of the myocardial functions and exitationcontraction coupling increase, further strategies target interventions to highly specific perturbations of cellular function, neurohormonal pathways and genetic solutions. In this paper, our goal is to review the newest strategies and novel treatment alternatives of the inotropic era.
