Abstract
In this third and last manuscript of the early childhood development (ECD) series, the effect of the family on development was investigated. Children are born and raised in families. Love, a nurturing environment, and appropriate stimuli and disciplining techniques will promote development, whereas abuse and neglect will withhold it. The developmental consequences of these are discussed with recommendations to families and physicians. Sleep regulation and toilet training, which are both important developmental milestones, are also discussed.
