Abstract
By using a 57-question survey, 33 mothers having children with chronic diseases were surveyed to determine their psychological, socioeconomic, physical and emotional situation, and the results were evaluated. The mean age for mothers was 40.5 (±7.9) years and, for diseased children, 11.4 (±5.7) years. 18.2% of the mothers got married at ages younger than 18 years. 48.5% of the mothers’ weight changed and 75.8% had decreased sleep duration. 81.8% felt sad, down or desponding on diagnosis. 10 (30.3%) of the mothers were employed, among them 5 (50%) quitted their work, whereas one mother was employed after the onset of disease. 81.8% expressed that the most affected parent was the mother herself. Among mothers, 75.8% were found to have lower time spared for themselves. It is important to provide psychological, social and economic support to mothers. Further research is required.
