Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients followed with a diagnosis of primary enuresis. The clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of 50 patients aged 5-18 diagnosed with “primary enuresis” between April 1, 2021, and April 1, 2023, at the Ankara Atatürk Sanatorium Training and Research Hospital Pediatric Nephrology outpatient clinic were retrospectively examined. In the study, among 50 patients with a median age at presentation of 7.8 (IQR 6.1 – 8.9) years (22 females, 28 males), 29 had non-monosymptomatic enuresis, and 21 had monosymptomatic enuresis. 30% of the patients full responded to behavioral therapy. Of the 32 patients received desmopressin, 68.7% responded fully or partially in the first month. Among patients who did not respond to desmopressin, 50% full responded in the third month with the combination of oxybutynin. The median age of patients who responded fully or partially to desmopressin therapy in the first month was significantly smaller than those who did not respond at all (7.8 vs. 9.4, p=0.03). Early referral and treatment are crucial in enuresis. Combination therapies may be beneficial in patients who do not achieve a full response with monotherapy.
