Abstract
Diagnosis and treatment of acute hematogenic osteomyelitis, a very rare disease in neonatal period, is very difficult. The incidence of neonatal osteomyelitis is 1-3 in 1000 cases, that is higher in preterm babies. 23 days old, term neonate admitted to hospital because of swallowing and color change at right gluteal and left thoracal regions. He was hospitalized for six days at another hospital on postnatal day 2, due to hypoglycemia and feeding problems, where only IV cannula was inserted among invasive procedures. Family recognized swelling on right leg on discharge from that hospital. He did not get any treatment until admission to our hospital. Osteomyelitis risk must be in mind in invasive procedures of neonates, and it is important to diagnose and treat these babies as early as possible to decrease sequels.
